Hunching
« on: September 16, 2012, 09:24:50 AM »
Okay, I promise not to be a nuisance, but one of my new budgies is hunching over this morning.  Is this a normal stance on occasion, or is it something I need to concern myself over.  Is he/she too cool as it’s cool here today in Omaha.

Sometimes my budgie just sits hunched - I'm new to this too, so I'm not sure what it means, but I haven't been concerned by it - is your budgie still doing it?  Mine seems to hunch when he's relaxing and sleepy...

Could you take a photograph of this behavior? I am not certain what you mean.

Unfortunately my cell doesn’t have a camera on it and my SLR is in repair, so I can’t post a picture.  What I man by ‘hunched’ is he/she just sits there, head hanging low (down around it’s chest), so that it’s wings look like one’s shrugging shoulders. . .

Hmm, if  I understand what you are saying that sounds like wing drooping. This could be a sign of illness. It might be best to begin nursing care, and consider taking him to the vet if you get another symptom.

Radar - did your budgie get any better?  My budgie was ducking low on his perch the other night and I wasn't sure why - he looks like he's on a motorbike trying to go faster!  He seems ok though - just wondered if you did find a problem or not?

My budgies do hunch (every now and then), but I’m beginning to think they are just getting ready to nap.  They seem to be more active and becoming acclimated to their new home.  Still can’t get too close to them (I’ve only had them two weeks), but feel Blue Boy will accept me before Sunny does.  I think I may have a male and a female, but not sure - they are still too young to definitely tell, although Blue Boy seems to ‘act like a male’ - dancing back and forth on his perch and hogging all the food!  LOL.
