Good Cage Size?
« on: September 15, 2012, 11:28:55 AM »
Hello,
I'm looking for a good cage for one Budgie, and the biggest size I can find for a sane price is 30"x18"x18" for $60.00. Is that a good size? Also, would I be able to fit a second Budgie in it if I wanted to get my bird a buddy eventually?
One more thing: It doesn't have mainly horizontal bars, just a few on each side. I tried to find one with more, but didn't succeed. Is that okay?
Thank you.

Hi :)

My cage has horizontal bars to the front and back, and vertical bars to the sides.  Alfie manages to climb around all of them perfectly well, although he slips on the vertical bars if he stays too long.  My cage is much bigger though - its a Savic Melodie 50 and I got it here http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/birds/bird_cages_and_accessories/parakeet_cages/savic/132559 - don't know if they deliver to America, but the prices are very reasonable!

Hope this helps! :)

These are the dimensions for my cages, which I love and can happily keep multiple budgies in just fine. I will say that this send like an unreasonably high price. Here's a link to a cage about 20 dollars cheaper and the same dimensions. http://www.petco.com/product/114152/Petco-Designer-White-Finch-Flight-Cage.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch

You do seem to be able to get things cheaper in America! :)

I specifically wanted the cage I have though because its pretty - I didn't just want a square one...  I wanted both roomy for Alfie so he can fly around if he wants (and he does - sending seed husks everywhere!!) but nice to look at too so I guess I spent a little more to get the best of both worlds...

There's nothing wrong with that :) Still, budget is a big concern for lots of people. I would much rather spread the word about large simple cages like this that are very reasonably priced rather than see another budgie stuck into a cage he can't move in!

We use the same cages as Sarah (the white finch flight cages from Petco). If you sign up for their email deals, you will actually get special offers from time to time and can get them at a discount. If you don't have a Petco near you, we've had really good luck ordering from the website, and their bird toys, food, and some of the other accessories are cheaper through the website than in the store.

OMG thank you so much for the link. Now I can spend the leftover cash on more budgie toys to swap in and out, or higher quality ones.
