She is a baby im pretty sure, maybe a few weeks? i got her from the petstore here....and actually just brought home the last of her clutch mate that was there, i want to breed eventually and the coloring on Storm, and who i am assuming is her clutch mate, is pretty cool i think.

Ill be posting pictures of the new little guy (hoping for guy) on my deviant art soon! Thanks for all your help guys!

If they are related you cant breed them.

I knew it!...if fighting starts i am going to separate them, and in the mean time begin the hunt for 2 males while the flock settles into their hierarchy. I couldnt let that awesome blending of colors go though, it was worth the risk.

i guess now ill have a wider breeding selection, maybe find ill some interesting looking males!

thanks Sarah! :)

Look for bright, rich purples or pinks when choosing a young budgie to be sure of a male. Avoid white nostril rings!

ooo thats a good tip! i will keep an eye out for them, though i am going to let every one settle in for at least a month...and also because if i bring home ANOTHER bird too soon i really will live up to the Bird lady reputation im getting around town!  ;D :P

if i should want to look for good paring, genetic wise, what would be best to look for in the males?
This is mostly for Dragon and Storm (especially with their coloring)

Skylar needs a parakeet with the personality of a Conure to keep her interest im realizing, i wish i had filmed the "Godzilla reenactment" they pulled today on my precious bird room. >.<

Ive attached a picture of the whole little flock on one of their rope corners in their birdy room. :)

Well, that is a tricky question depending largely on your ideology. In general, people breed for two reasons, for the wonderful experience and to "create a better pet." What that means exactly varies from person to person. Many people breed towards certain appearances, and that is all well and good. I however, feeling that budgies of any mutation and coloration are beautiful in different ways, prefer to breed for a better nature. I would try to find sweet and easy going parents for laid back offspring, and fiesty and playful ones for higher energy pets. If you are also interested in breeding for personality, I recommend getting to know your hens. Think what personality traits a male could have that would temper their faults. If the hen is flighty, uptight or reserved, perhaps a relaxed, gentle or playful male would help their offspring to have more open and tame temperaments. If there is something you love about your hen, her activity level, her intelligence or sweetness, try to match a male with similar desirable traits.

If it is color you are concerned with, it depends largely on the color you hope to arrive at. Any coupling of birds can end in beautiful offspring, and the more unusual the parents look, the more unusual and varied the offspring look. I have seen two unusual parents raise five chicks that look completely different to each other! If this appeals, then try to find males that are striking, unusual and look nothing like Storm and Dragon.

I would love to breed for both honestly, and now ill be thinking more seriously about interaction and color when i look for males! Let the Hunt begin!

Thanks so much Sarah! :)

I hate to be nosey and obnoxious, giving you unasked advice on photos you did not refer me to on your deviant art account... but you should not give your conure whole apples. Apple seeds are highly toxic to birds, containing poisons that will build up in the system over time slowly and painfully killing the bird. You would not put CYANIDE in his food I am sure, but that is EXACTLY what is in apple seeds. So, please be careful and core apples before giving them to your birds! You can make fun toys out of a cored apple by filling the center with another nummy treat, like peanut butter :)
