I have had a new parakeet for 7 months now and we still cant figure out his/her age. My parakeet is young and is white with blue feathers on its back and black in other place. Its cere is light pink with white faded circles around the nostrils. Anybody? SOS  :'(

If its got light white circles around its nostrils its most likely a female. If solid color then male, since its old then 4 months Im guessing it might be female, cant be sure unless you post a pic.

This photo is very blurry, but it looks like a recessive pied male to me. Can you try to get something clearer?

I don't know if this will work better but let me define him/her XD This parakeet is friends with a male well more then friends i assume. The male feeds him or her and protects. And she is smaller and smooth and the male is bigger and well more poofy :P The white parakeet which is the one I'm trying to figure out. Is very bossy to my other birds and the male. But also like to sing sometimes. I tried o fix the picture but I think its as good as I can get.

Im still fairly convinced this is a recessive pied male. Recessive pied (birds with this feather coloration) do not get the classic blue ceres or noses that other male budgies do. This bird must be one year of age at least, and if it were female, the cere would be snow white, tan or brown, never pink. Only recessive pied males have pink ceres at this age.

However, it is perfectly normal for two males to be very close friends and highly affectionate with each other. Males are not dominant in this species, and tend to form closer friendships with other boys than females are likely to with other females.
