You have a fully mature adult female :) She is more than a year old, and in beautiful condidion.

Sophia, that bird is not young. It is adult; the silver Iris and white cap tell us the bird is fully mature.

Right about Turk's cere is mostly white. There are minimal/faint black stripes starting towards the middle-top of his/her head and definitely a thin silver iris.

Ahh...silly autocorrect.  I meant to say right ABOVE Turk's cere.  I don't know is that changes anything. Oy...it's been a longgg day!

Males ceres are a smooth color, sometimes purpley, sometimes light blue- but always navy when in breeding condition. Turk's cere has white rings around the nostrils, signaling that she is probably female and not in the mood for baby making :P You will see her nose turn many colors in her life time. Sometimes it may be snow white, sometimes tan. If chocolate brown and crusty, you'll know your birdie wants to be a momma!

Honestly, her eyes are still pretty dark.  The vet mentioned that she was probably still young.  Does the thickness of the silver iris point to a specific age? I've just noticed her eyes are still mostly jet black.  Sorry to be a pain.  i just can't seem to figure her age out.

Not really....

When budgies are new born, their eyes are solid black. As the budgie gets older, the black iris will turn charcoal grey, then brownish, and then silver. I've never heard of a bird's iris actually getting larger over time. Let me redirect you to the page Mindy has set up for estimating your bird's age. It shows very clear picture of the eye colors you should be looking for.

OK...well that might put Turk in the 4-6 month range.  They are definitely a deep grey.  When are they considered adults?

Also, I've read they moult about once a year but The vet mentioned young birds having moults more frequently.  But on average how long would it take for flight feathers to grow back?

The birds first molt is at 3-4 months; but your bird is already past that; because she has a clear cap. I really can't say how long it will be exactly, but it will probably not be more than a few months.

Hey Turkey:P

So I'm still convinced Turk is a Ms, if a bit younger than I originally thought. Still, it will be exciting to watch and find out

Awesome!!! Thanks Sarah for all the info.  It's be a real help.  Sorry for my misleading information.  I'm still working on figuring this all out.  I'm so excited to watch Ms. Turkey grow up.  She's a real sweetheart.  I just want to give her the best I can!!!

And Turk says thanks for the compliment.  She likes to keep herself looking top notch! Even if that means a few accidental falls into her bird bath.  Twice in one week!Poor thing lost her footing. It was cute.
